When will they ever learn?

The rules are clear and the fines are heavy. We know the regulators are more active than in the past but still we see it going on. Employers trying to cheat and it ends up with illegal workers face being kicked out of the UK. The latest in the south west following a raid by the Border Agency on a Sidmouth Chinese takeaway.

Two Chinese men found working illegally in the kitchen of the business were today in detention while Border Agency chiefs took steps to remove them from the country.

One arrested man had overstayed his visa, while the second had stayed in the UK illegally after his asylum claim was refused, said a spokesman for the authority.

Sliver King’s owner faces a fine of up to £20,000 - £10,000 for each illegal worker – unless they can prove the correct right-to-work checks were carried out before they were employed. That's an awful lot of takeaways.

Jane Farleigh, regional Director for UKBA in the South West, said: “We’re happy to work with businesses to let them know what checks need to be done on staff, but those who do break the law should know that we are out there looking for them and they will face heavy fines.”

Any employer in doubt should seek professional advice from trusted advisors including ourselves using our quick enquiry form or West Country Lawyers such as Future Law who Acorn retain to advise us.

If required we can offer advice on Swedish Derogation and other methods of using contract labour legally.
