Four suspected illegal workers have been found at two Dorset takeaways following raids by immigration officers.
Both takeaways were served with civil penalty notices for employing illegal workers.
If the employers are unable to provide evidence that the legally-required checks were carried out before giving the workers jobs, a fine of up to £10,000 for each offender will be imposed.
One of these businesses is facing a possible £30,000 fine, which is a warning to everybody and might make them think they won’t do that again.
“It is a shame to here of this taking place locally” said Chris Slay of Acorn Recruitment (South West) Limited. “However ignorance is no excuse, and there is enough press coverage so you can have little sympathy. If employers are not sure what to do they can always ask ourselves. We’d be pleased to help.”
Jane Farleigh, regional director of the UK Border Agency for the South West, added: “This successful operation shows that our officers will find immigration offenders wherever they are across Dorset and we carry out frequent operations to track them down.
