With unemployment remaining stubbornly high throughout the West Country and looking very unlikely to fall in the near term it is a choice to be considered for those that are willing to up sticks and move to the other side of the world.
Unemployment is a global problem not just one in Devon and Cornwall although for those effected it doesn't seem as though there are many choices around but there are if you are prepared to be flexible and you have the in demand skills. Cheese exports from Somerset and specialist ham from Dorset are just two of the food related exports from the region. Add to this the high tech export lead businesses found in both Dorset and Gloucestershire things are not that bad unless you are unwilling to relocate. Indeed we have jobs on offer in the UK but a lack of applicants which does seem strange given market conditions. You'd be surprised about how many people expect a solution to be delivered on a plate.
As part of an international recruitment agency that sources skills from around the globe and locates then in areas of high demand it is frustrating to not be able to help more Brits with certified trade skills or in demand professional qualifications to relocate to areas that want their skills. Whilst Australia will welcome anybody that is qualified the rules are ch easier for Brits that for many nationalities. The Irish are moving in their 1000's but not West Countrymen!
However, we are no more able to push water up hill than anyone else but for those of you interested in relocation to Australia and New Zealand check out www.downunderlive.co.uk.
There is a show in Birmingham this weekend where Skills Provision are exhibiting and you can read more about the service provided here.
You make you own luck in life.
Good luck.
